ONE MORE DAY TO REGISTAR- What are you waiting for?

Over 100 of your friends and neighbors have registered and taken their pre-participation physical and fitness tests so far in the WAAY To Get Fit BootCamp. This Wednesday is the last day to register. ONE MORE DAY TO REGISTER FOR BOOTCAMP. Don't be scared, come join us. We have three levels, Basic, Intermediate and Advanced.

I have heard from so many of you. Your scared to join, thinking it will be too much. Listen, the personal trainers know and tell us. If your tired, just sit down. Do what you can. What you can at BootCamp, is better than what your doing now. Others tell me, that they are so big they don't want to be seen in public. That's nonsense. If I can do it in public, as BIG as I am, so can YOU. Join us, it's $31 dollars for 31 days of workouts with personal trainer "Superman" Phil Johnson and his team. You can't work out with a personal trainer for $31. Some single sessions with personal trainers can cost hundreds. We're not doing this to make money were doing this to help people like you and me. All profit goes to Christmas Charities.

So, Here is your opportunity to get off the couch and start moving again. Listen if I can do it weighing what I do so can you. Join Tracy and I in the Basic group. Now, for you better fit people we have the Intermediate and even the Advanced for you Go Gitters. We all win if you loose.

Awsome First Day of Registration -

Today we had an awesome turnout to register for the WAAY to get Fit, Rocket Fitness BootCamp. Over 200 picked up information packs and physical exam forms at the two locations to take to their doctor for pre-participation. Over 50 went through the pre-participation work out with personal trainer "Superman" Phil Johnson to be placed in Basic, Intermediate and Advanced groups. We are so happy that so many of you have chosen to work out with us and have a great time. As most of you know, when Tracy, "My Buddy Diet" Buddy, and I started personal trainer Phil said we were starting below level 1. We had simply been on the couch too long and had turned into "couch taters". He started us out with stretching and exercises. Not to brag but out last workout both Tracy and I did 45 jumping jacks, 3 min boxing drill, 45 bicep curls, 45 triceps curls, 45 sit ups, 45 leg lifts, 45 lunges. OMG were we tired. But we did it.

Were still in Basic. But were off the couch and so can you. I have been somewhat discouraged that the weight didn't come off faster. Who wouldn't. But on the other hand my entire life, I have NEVER lost weight and kept it off Not even 6 months and now I've lost 31+lbs and Tracy has lost 13. I know some of you have a harder time than me in loosing weight. I have heard from you. I also know that some of you loose weight very easily. To you I say God Bless and may it always be so. Each of us is different and has to live in the body provided by God. So we continue. We persevere.

Join us for BootCamp with two location: 1) 6am Sept 9th at Fern Bell Park south Huntsville off Whitesburg Dr and 2) 6pm at the Police Academy off Sparkman Drive. The cost is $31 for Monday, Wednesday, Friday workouts from Sept 9th till Oct 9th. All Profit will go to the Christmas Charity

Announcing a Boot Camp

Hello all Dr Greg & Tracy Here
What a tough month July was on our health and our diet. As most of you know from watching me on TV, I had a real bout with bronchitis. In fact its not totally gone. I am still coughing at night. Tracy says I am keeping her up. Now for the good, the bad and the ugly. The good is that this week we both started working out again with Phil our personal terrorist. I was so sore on Wed that I could hardly move. The bad is that Tracy and I fell off our diet for some of July. For me it was because I ran a 102 for a week and and a half and missed two weeks of work. I was eating chicken soup and crackers most days and recovering. Then came the bronchitis and the steroids. For goodness sakes, I was on 4 different steroids for a month. I am still on the steroid nasal spray. I felt so rotten that I just wanted to eat little or nothing. Tracy was eating what she made me so we kind of both were off the diet for several weeks. The ugly is that I have gained 4 lbs from the steroids and Tracy has gained 2 lbs at the same time.

We sat down with Superman Phil our personal trainer and Dr Wallis our chiropractor and came up with a plan to get us back in shape and back on the diet. We started back gangbusters this past Monday. On Tuesday Phil worked us out with aerobics. Then on Thursday he did legs and Friday he did upper body. Tracy and I are so sore again.

A couple of months ago, Superman Phil and his workout team held a test boot camp. It was well received. Phil and I have decided to team up and hold a Waay to Get Fit and Rocket N2 fitness boot camp at Fern Bell Park on Sandars Rd off Whitesburg in South Huntsville. Registration for the boot camp will start Monday August 31st, 6am and 6pm and again on Wednesday Sept 2nd same times. The actual Boot Camp will start Wednesday September 9th and run every Monday Wednesday and Friday 6am and 6pm for 1 hour until October 7th. The cost will only be $31 dollars for the entire program with all profit going to charity. Boot camps normally cost over $200 so this is an opportunity for many of you to join Tracy and myself in working out. More details to follow.

Still Fighting Bronchitis

Hello
Wow, Its been a month and I am still fighting bronchitis. I am much better but not well yet. I am still on nebulizer and other steroids. I can't wait to get off all the steroids. I have tried to work out several times. But each time I do, I have to stop due to the coughing. I also seem to be up every night coughing. I have gained 4 pounds now since being on steroids. I was up to 29 pounds lost but now I'm back to 25 lost. I don't like that but realize that I needed to have the meds to get well. A hundred years ago, a sickness like I had could of been the end. But today we have steroids and antibiotics. I will try again to workout and get back on the diet this next week. My Buddy says she is ready to join me all out again. Talk to you next week.

Still Getting Better

Hello all. Dr Greg here.
What a bout with bronchitis I have had. I want to thank all of you for your get well cards and letters. As Tracy told you in her last post, I have been fighting a cold that turned into bronchitis. I was out of work for nearly two weeks. Now I am on four steroid breathing treatments a day, taking steroids by mouth, using a steroid spray in my nose and on antibiotics. I feel like a walking steroid. Obviously with all of this I have been off the diet and workout regiment. Its funny I have not worked out in two weeks and I can already feel the difference. I have gained 3 pounds so far. I don't like at all. I tried to work out on Friday but coughed so much that I had to stop. I will try again towards the end of next week. Tracy said in her blog that Life is Life and she is right. Real life has challenges, up and downs. I look at it as a war of many battles. We are loosing the current battle but we will win the war. Thanks again for all your well wishes.

Back to work

Hello everyone! As many of you know, Greg has been quite sick. Since his bought with Cancer a few years ago, he gets sick very easily and takes a long time to get over what ever he gits. He has missed almost two weeks of work. He started off with a cold and gotten worse. He ran a fever of 102+ for the first week. He is now on his second round of antibiotics and steroids. Obviously while he was sick he was off the diet and off exercise. I have been making him chicken soup and nursing him back to health. I too have not been doing so well on the diet while Greg is sick. I have been eating the chicken soup and other things I make for both of us. I am still working out with Phil in the mornings but I have gained a few pounds. I am not happy with that at all. Life is Life, but I need to get back on the wagon while trying to get Greg well. He was just diagnosed with bronchitis today. He is coughing terribly deep. Anyway, I just wanted to say hello get you up to date. I will blog again soon! Be well! Tracy

Happy 4th of July

As the song says Let Freedom Ring - Its' Independence Day. I am proud to be an American and I love this Country. Freedom can mean lots of things to lots of people. For me, I am proud to live in a wonderful country, so free, that today and every day I can do what I want and speak my mind without fear. I can choose to live my life any way I want. But you know, Freedom isn't Free. And today, I thank all those that serve in the United States Military, in my place, keeping Me Free. I thank you for your service. And yes, I want you on that wall, protecting me and my family. Thank You

Tracy here. You know I'm proud to be an American too. I too thank all those around the world for their service. But today, I want to talk about another kind of freedom. You know Greg and I were prisoners of our own bodies. Just 6 months ago we were trapped inside and could not hardly move. I feel we're free now. As we continue to change our lifestyle, we become more free to get up and live again. We were literally eating our self to death. We are now free of that monster, hopefully for a lifetime.

Happy Independence Day & God Bless America
Dr Greg and Tracy
PS... Don't eat too much today.

We're Teaming up for Success

Tracy and I are helping each other, as Buddies, team up for success. Just yesterday, Tracy did not feel like getting up and working out with Phil our personal terrorist. It would have been so easy to just let her sleep. But you know, turn about is fair play. Just the other day, she made me get up and work out when I didn't want to. So what did I do. I turned on the light and tickled her knees. (her tickle spot) till she got out of bed. I won. No We Won. We both worked out and had fruit for breakfast and went to work. The Buddy way is the only way to change your life style. By the way, If you can't find a buddy here in Huntsville/Decatur, We have lots of them that have contacted us and are looking for a diet buddy. Just let me know by e-mailing me at drmillar@millarchiro.com. Thanks.

What a Weekend

Hello All. Tracy and I went out of town this weekend to the Bar Mitzvah (our first) of one of our doctor's sons. What a party. Of course there are all the religious implications; but, the service was well done. It was the first time Tracy or I had ever been in a Jewish Temple. The party afterward was amazing. They had a sit down dinner for 250 guest. wow. I course we had no choice in what they served. What we had was control over what we ate. We did sample several new and exciting foods this weekend. Their family was most gracious. Good time had by all. Of course the trip also presented new challenges. We ate salads at McDonald's on the way over and at Wendy's on the way back. The salads were good an on the diet. We've got a very busy week this week up comming so its late and talk to you later. Dr Greg

I'm Doing Better on the Diet This Week

This week was a better week for Greg and me. He really stepped up as my Buddy and helped me to make good choices. We talked lots this week about how easy it was to just go back and not change our lifestyle. Go back to the way we were. It would have been so easy to just quit. I kept telling my self how good I had done so far and I deserved a break. What is funny is that for the most part, I have not really had food cravings or hunger cravings like Greg did. This week we both wrote down every morsel. We had stopped keeping our journals several months ago. We learned that this is necessary for accountability to each other. Greg and I are going out of town this weekend. Greg was much better this week off the Steroids for his neck. His neck still hurts but he is getting better day by day. Talk to you next week. Tracy

Tracy Fell off the Wagon

Hello All:

Tracy hit a real bump in the road this week. She said that with my being sick, in pain, and on steroids all week she was under a lot of stress and fell off the diet. She got stressed out and cheated once and the door was opened. She then cheated her next meal and off the diet she went. She gained about 3 lbs and got depressed. So we had quite a household, me hurting and sick and Tracy depressed. The good news is that as Buddies we talk to each other all the time. We decided that we can as Buddies help each other to go back on the life style changes.

I encouraged her to slow down and think about her eating. We have come too far to give up now. I reminded her that this is not a diet but a lifestyle modification. She encouraged me to not be so angry with everyone and get off the steroids as soon as possible. We will encourage each other and talk lots this next week. Keep us in your prayers.

I Blew a Disc

Hello all:
So this week was tough for me. As I told you last week I still have my night cough. However last Monday, I was moving a piece of spinal screening equipment out of a downpour and herniated a disc. Tuesday, I had an MRI and confirmed my herniated disc in my neck at C-7. I have had constant neck and radiating pain since the event. The good news this that we have the equipment and doctors to treat me. I started immediately on DTS decompression Traction and Chiropractic manipulations. Dr Mac adjusted me daily while Dr Dick gave me two steroid injections on Wednesday to lessen the inflammation. I have done several e-stims and ultra sounds a day since my pain is through the roof. I am some better today.

The steroid injections made me angry and made me want to eat like a horse. Wow, what a difference. This week I gained 3 lbs. I think it was mostly water weight from the steroids. So I am really trying to hold it together. The muscle relaxers they gave me make me woozy and hard to wake up in the morning as well and I don't like taking them. I will be glad when I am closer to back to normal.

Now some good news. Tracy and I are near the half way point. To date Tracy has lost 16.9 lbs of her 30 pound goal and even with the weight gain this week, I have lost 24.6 pounds of my 50 pound goal so far. We are happy with our results so far. We are on our buddy schedule to meet our goals of 80 pounds.

Freedom Isn't Free

Tomorrow is Memorial Day and tonight I pray for all our service men and women keeping America Free. Freedom isn't free. It has a very high price. Just ask any parent that has lost a child in the service. Or just ask any family member of someone serving today. The family serves too, you know. We thank you for your service. I personally thank you for serving in my place.

Now on to more fun things. I am still coughing at night (all night) but I feel just fine during the day. I am back at work and doing well. The flu is gone. Thank God. I started working out well lets say I started stretching again. I am so sore again from not working out. My muscles got tight so fast it was amazing. I feel like I lost quite a bit of ground on muscle strength and tone but i did not change much on weight. Here I was thinking OK you have the flu and so off comes the weight. Not the case. Through it all, I only lost 1 pound. Well the good news is that makes 24 for the year. I am right on target to hit my 50 pound goal. It is kind of frustrating in a way. I get sick and don't eat and still don't lose weight. Well here we go again into another wonderful week and were off... Dr Greg

Among the living

Hello all. Thank you for all your kind e-mails and get well cards. The flu was tough. I ran a 102+ fever for five straight days. I am on the mend but not there yet. I ate my first solid meal today- a grilled cheese sandwich and applesauce. Not a steak, but a start. I am still pretty achy from the flu. I don't wish that stuff on anyone. Well, now its in my chest and so I've started coughing at night. I think I've got a secondary bronchitis infection. There will be plenty of weeks for dieting; but, this next week, we are going to just recoup and get well. I decided that I will try to start working out aging next week. I am still debating if i will go to work tomorrow; but, I am feeling better day by day. Dr Greg

Taking Care of a sick Buddy

As I told you last post, Dr Greg has the Flu. He has been running a fever of 102 or higher for 5 days now. All he eats is chicken soup occasionally and lots of gator aid and ginger ale. I just ask him to take the rest of the week off and I don't think he will object. I don't think this is a good week to think about dieting. He is sick and I am playing nurse. In caring for him, I don't want to eat either. He told me a few minutes ago that he hurt everywhere even the tip of his nose. We've all had the flu and know how miserable it makes you feel. He will be better soon. Y'all have a good week and I will keep you posted. Tracy

Dr Greg Got the Flu

Well it happened. On Thursday night he started feeling puny and sure enough by Friday he was running a fever. He had a quick strep/flu test and it was just the plain old influenza "A". Not the Swine Flu going around Huntsville. Thank Goodness. So off to the drug store I went and got his prescription filled. The Tamiflu takes about 3 days they say so here we go. Well I guess this is good for the diet as I don't want to eat anything and his fever is 101.3 and all he wants to do is go to bed. TaTa for now. More later.

Lots of Excitement in Madison Alabama

Hello All
What an exciting week we had in Madison Alabama this week. As most of you know, this past week Madison Alabama recorded it's first case of Swine Flu. This was the first case in Alabama. Then quickly in suit came the second case, then the third and now 10 others are being tested for final Swine Flu confirmation. As you may not know, with a confirmed case, we go into CDC level 6 security and recommendations. That means that all the schools are closed for one week and that the school with the confirmed cases two weeks. So last week they closed all schools in Madison and Huntsville for the week. Then they closed all day care, then they closed all parks, and after school sporting events. All the residents were asked to take special washing precautions and be ever ready to help others. As a physician that made my life very tough. Many people are scared and rumors are rampant. Folks this is no time for panic. This is a strain very similar to influenza "A" and something health care providers are used to working with. This is not an overly difficult strain of the flu. Yes, precautions should be taken. And yes, we have to be careful; but, were already winning the fight. That is why were trying to get the word out to all that have computers to check the CDC website at www.cdc.gov for swine flu and follow the instructions. As for the diet, we again lost about a pound this week and we continue to do well. Thanks again for all the well wishes and Keep up the good hand washing.

Panoply - Thanks for all the well wishes

Hello
I want to say Thank you to all of you that stopped at our Millar Chiropractic booth at Panoply. I really enjoyed meeting and talking to so many of you. Thank you for all of your encouragement and well wishes. You know, we're all in this together. Me and my buddy, you and your buddy, and the many of you that are doing the "My Buddy Diet" and program alone or with me as your TV buddy and inspiration. It's humbling. So many of you came by and said "if You can do it, so can I". I must have talked to hundreds that told me stories of their weight loss struggles and recent accomplishments. After this weekend and after meeting so many of you in person, I wouldn't give up for the world. I am so inspired by you. You know we can do this together. WE can loose weight forever. Again THANK YOU.

I Feel Like My Self Again

Hello All
I am very happy to be past my plateau. I lost a pound and a half last week. I have been loosing between 1 and 2 lbs since January. Suddenly, a couple of weeks ago I stopped. In fact I actually gained 1/2 pound. I told myself it might be water weight but I knew I needed to double up my efforts and call on my Buddy to help me through the tough part. Tracy, my wife and Buddy, was great. She encouraged me and motivated me all through the weeks of nothing. I know that if she had not been with me on the diet that I would have failed this one like I have so many others. But the good news is success. I an loosing again. I am nearly half way to my 50 lb goal for the year. And surprising the year is nearly half over. Tracy is also about half way to her goal of 30 lbs for the year. I really feel good that we can make it. I know that the diet has changed our life. We now go more with more energy; and, we don't sit on the couch near as much. The way we feel has also made a difference in the rest of my life as well. I want to say thank you to all of you for all of you continued support the card and e-mails of encouragement were wonderful. Thanks again to all of you. Together we can do this thing.
Dr Greg
PS. were getting a new webcam installed this week so we'll be back next Sunday night with a new video.

I LOST 1 POUND THIS WEEK

By Jobe, I think we did it. I hopped on the scales today and I lost 1 pound this week. I am very happy. Inside I was starting to get worried that the weight loss would somehow stop and I would fail yet another diet. Only this time it would be very public. But today I lost more weight. That makes 26 so far. We have punched through the plateau and are now loosing our planned 1 pound a week again. Tracy, my Buddy, also lost 1/2 pound. I called Phil my trainer and told him the good news as well. I am ready to loose on down to my goal of 50 lbs for the year. Dr Greg

Beating the Plateau

Hello all. Another week has come and gone and I'm still stuck at the same weight. I am determined to beat this plateau. I feel like I am willing my body to loose weight. I am sticking to the diet with a passion. My Buddy, my wife, is helping with the mental demons and keeping me in high spirits. You have no idea how important it is to have someone constantly lifting you up and telling you you can do something. My personal trainer is helping by working my butt off at the gym. Today he had me ride the bike for 4 miles before starting the daily workout. He wanted my heart at target heart rate before we started lifting. Then he pushed us from machine to machine without the normal time to rest and recuperate in effect making the anaerobic training also aerobic. Then he finished with recombinant bike and again pushed the heart rate and kept it there. All I know is I am so pooped at the end of the workout that I can ring out my socks. I will beat this plateau and beat this weight thing once and forever.

Still in Plateau

Hello again.
This has been a tough week mentally. You know when your doing everything right and your loosing its easy to keep going. It's much tougher to do everything right and your gaining weight. I have actually gained 1/2 pound since last week. I know that water weight can fluctuate and I also know that working out builds lean muscle mass that weighs more than fat; but, gaining weight on a diet is not good. It's interesting just how fast the demons attack. I was just fine as long as the weight was coming off. When I stopped losing, I immediately started having thoughts about: Failing another diet and will I ever really be able to loose weight and get healthy. I started to doubting myself and the program. My Buddy, my wife Tracy has really been great. She has been right there for me every moment of my plateau. I believe if I had not had a buddy I might have been tempted to go off this diet and have another failed diet experience. Thanks Tracy. As for us in the Gym were working harder than ever. I am doing the right things and I will succeed.
Dr Greg

Sunday, April 12, 2009

Hello All:
Well by now you have probably heard. I am in a plateau. This week, I hopped on the scale and nothing. I am doing all the right things. I'm still on the diet; I am still working out; I'm still drinking the water; I'm still following everything and nothing. No weight loss. In fact I actually gained .25 pounds. I have been losing about 1-2 pounds a week since we started in January. I immediately call my buddy Tracy and told her of my problem. She laughed at first and told me it was about time she could catch up as I was loosing faster than her. Then she realized how upset I was at not loosing and started going over all our diet and lifestyle changes again. She is right. Its times like these that people give up and go back to what they were doing before. Now was the time for me to really do a "gut check" and decide if I was going to really continue to do the lifestyle changes and become healthy or go back to being heavy and unhealthy. I decided to keep in the program and win this battle. I have failed every diet I have ever been on but this is not a diet but a lifestyle modification program I am going to win. I am going to become healthy. We called our personal trainer, Phil Johnson, and he suggested that we just double up our work out effort. So this week I will stay on the program, workout more and I am sure the results will come in time.

Sunday Night April 5th

Hello again.. As Tracy told you earlier in the week in her blog, this was a stressful week with two doctors out ill and us having to pick up the pace. This week on Friday, we graduated into the gym. We have been working out three days a week at the house with Phil Johnson our personal terrorist. Phil has had us working with three sets of 15 reps of calisthenics, free weights, medicine balls, bosu balls, resistance training and cardio. On Friday we graduated into the gym with about a 10 machine workout. Tracy and I were worried that we would hurt after the workout but we were pleasantly surprised. We felt great. In fact just the opposite, we both really enjoyed the intensity of the workout. We felt good afterward. Phil has added a fourth day to our workout program. We now do Tues and Thurs at home then Friday at the gym and Sunday we started a Cardio walk. Phil told us to warm up with a 5 min walk then blast walk for 5 min at very fast pace while monitoring our pulse to make sure we were in our target heart range and then do a 5 min cool down walk. Each month he will add minutes each week to our Cardio walk keeping us in our respective target heart ranges for longer periods. As for the diet, we continue to follow the good eating plan. I must admit salmon is starting to get boring at lunch every day so I am mixing it up more with more chicken and other fishes.

Stressful Week

Hello everyone! It's Tracy again. I have been so stressed this week. I had another allergy attack on Tuesday and I was just miserable. I am supposed to be taking allergy shots and I haven't taken them like I should so my allergy doctor is fussing at me. I am supposed to have two shots per week and I forget them so much of the time. Anyway, I am trying to avoid taking a steroid shot because it just makes me want to eat. We are supposed to start working out at the gym with Phil next week. I am really looking forward to it. I am kind of worried though because it is much easier to work out when Phil just shows up at the door, now we will have to go to him once a week. Then we will eventually switch to the gym all together. I will admit that Easter is one of my weaknesses. I love chocolate and Easter candy is the best. I am trying very hard to resist eating it. I will try to write again soon.
Be Well!

Out of Town for the Weekend

Hello again it's Sunday night. Tracy and I were out of town visiting family this weekend. You know what it's so much easier now that family is starting to ask me how much weight I have lost and they are now interested in helping me loose more. The same can be said for all of you that have seen me out in public or at restaurants. Thank you for asking how Tracy and I are doing on the diet. I think it's interesting that at a restaurant so many people come by my table to just look at what I'm eating. I think it's fun. You know if We Can Do It... So Can You. In fact that is one of reasons that my buddy Tracy and I went on the diet in the first place. I wanted to show big people that a big person can loose weight and again if I can do it so can you. Well tonight we have a short video blog as its after 11:45 and I have to be in Decatur at the Clinic at 8am.
God Bless and Keep Watching
Dr Greg

PS ... I wanted to tell everyone that Millar Chiropractic is having it's 6th annual Easter Egg Hunt Saturday April 11th at Big Spring Park in Huntsville Alabama and at Wilson Morgan Park in Decatur, Alabama. We have 12,000 eggs. Golden Prize eggs too. The hunt will start at 9am with three age groups. This is our gift to the community. No charge. Just Fun and bringing back an old time family good time.

Stressful Week

Hello everyone! This is Tracy. I have been so busy lately. I have been working out of three different offices over the last two weeks so I am pulled in about 15 directions. After my mom's visit (and being out of work for nearly a week) I had a lot of work piled up to complete plus everything that I do each week anyway. I have had some health issues lately. I am sure that lots of people have allergies also but I have had three allergy attacks in a week. One of them was brought on by cigarette smoke but I don't exactly know what brought the other two on except the obvious. Every thing is so beautiful this time of year but I have to say that it isn't my favorite time of year because of my allergies. Everything for me gets all screwed up because of my allergies. I have sneezing fits and stomach issues and it is just no fun. On a brighter note, because of the stomach issues, I am not wanting to eat as much and because of my allergy medicine, it is also not hard to get all of the water I need in each day. I will write back again this week. Be well!

Stressful Week But We Made It

Hello all. Tracy and I had a very stressful week both at home and work this week. We had house guest while we had major changes at work. A tough week to stay on any kind of a diet and lifestyle modification plan. But we did it. I am proud of both of us. Even though the idea of old habits and comfort food were the easy way, both Tracy and I for the most part stayed on course and on our plan. With house guest (family and friends) in from out of town they wanted to visit other family members who all wanted to show southern hospitality and cook too much food for any army to eat. Then nights when we were alone with our guest, we wanted to go out to dinner and show them Huntsville. Again stressful for someone on a lifestyle modification. Again we did it by making dinner choices of salads. At work we're making big changes (growing pains) and welcoming new doctors and corporate changes. In fact, on Thursday, we closed all the clinics and had a day long Team meeting so we spent hours preparing the PowerPoint presentations. More stress. So how did we do. For the most part great. There were some old habits that tried to bite us; but, we held on and worked at keeping on track. Who ever said the toughest part of lifestyle modification is the mental stuff and keeping away the mental daemons was right on target. It's easy to change when it' easy but it's hard to keep going when it's tough. Well we choose to continue the plan and reap the wonderful benefits... living longer healthy.
God Bless

Family Visit

Hello everyone! This is Tracy! Sorry it has been so long since I have blogged. I have been so busy. I have been out of town and when I came back, I brought my mom back with me so I have been entertaining her this week. I am so glad that she came to visit. It is the first time in nearly 10 years that she has come just to stay and visit.

I have been having a hard time staying on track with the diet but I am trying to make better choices about what I eat. I have been having salads and grilled chicken and fish. I am still having problems with the water consumption. I can't seem to get enough water in except on days we work out. I don't have any problem with the water on those days.

Phil has been working us out harder trying to get us ready to work out in the gym instead of the house. I am not sure I like that idea...he will try to kill us for sure in the gym. Anyway, I will write back again this weekend. I am getting ready to go back to Birmingham and take my mom back home tonight. But, I will be back on Saturday.

Be well!

Caught in the Snow of 2009

Hello everyone.. What a fun weekend. Tracy, my buddy, and I went to Birmingham this weekend for the UAB Spine Symposium and continuing ed credits. While in Birmingham it snowed. That's the good news. The bad news is that today when we awoke the hotel power was off. Apparently a tree had fallen on the power lines and no power. Of course, no power meant no ability to cook. Also the hotel staff could not get to work due to the snow. And, the restaurant manager had the key to the freezer. In any event, we had no power and no food for most of the day. The hotel finally got power restored and fixed meals of what food they had on hand. The point to this is that if you follow a lifestyle modification and something throws you a curve "it's ok". Even though they served varied foods, we still made the best choices of what was available. Tonight back at home we continued the my buddy diet as normal. More about choices later this week.
Have a great night

30 Pounds Down and Counting

Hi gang. Tracy, my buddy, and I have good news to share. Were just about finishing our second month and the results are in. We have lost a total of +30 pounds on our Waay to get fit. The combination of the Waay to Get Fit workout program along with the My Buddy Diet is the waay to go. Tracy and I are very happy. Remember our goal for this year was 80 pounds and we have already reached 30 pounds so far. I know we have plateaus ahead but for now I am happy thinking that this program is actually working when so many have failed in the past. I just wanted to tell a story on Tracy. Last year about this time all the swimsuit catalogues came into the house. Tracy would promptly throw them away as fast as they came in. This year she is down 10 pounds and thinking she will probably be down another 5 pounds by summer so she is looking at the swimsuits and smiling. I think were buying new swim suits this year. Oh la la.

We've been asked about how we can afford the diet food. The truth is that dieting is actually cheaper than before. No more or greatly reduced restaurants and fast food along with purchasing no processed foods make our overall food bill lower than before. In fact the UADA actually estimated that a family of 4 could save about 300 per month on eating healthy.
Those that are doing the diet with us, keep up the good work. Those that are thinking about getting fit. Remember all you have to loose is the weight.

Stating Waay to Get Fit on the Road

What an exciting week we had last week. We took the whole family snow skiing last week in North Carolina at Ski Beach Mountain. Now Ski Beach is about 6 hours from Huntsville so we packed up the cars and headed up the mountains. The fun part was staying on the diet while traveling for hours. In fact due to traffic the way back actually took nearly 8 hours. What Tracy, my buddy, and I found out was that you can still hold the diet while on the road. You just need to plan ahead. Think about what your going to order before you pull in to the fast food place and then stick to your guns. We ate salads and grilled chicken and not burgers and fries. Now the rest of the family did eat the burger and fries but Tracy and I were good.

We also found that while on the road and even after we got to our destination that drinking the amount of water we needed was hard. On vacation your always on the go. Here we were skiing everyday and that was fun. But drinking water was not on the top of our minds. So we found ourselves having to catch up drinking water at night.

Back to it!

Hello again! This is Tracy. We are back to work and back on the diet today. We took a little break on vacation and we are back on now and looking forward to seeing Phil tomorrow...I think. I have a feeling he will put us through the ringer tomorrow whether we want it or not. Anyway, we had a great time in the mountains! We had a chance to do lots of walking. Before we started working out, we would not have been able to do that. Greg and I were that far out of shape. Now that we have been working out for a while and stretching, we were actually able to walk around in the mountains together and really enjoy spending time together! It was great! I am so glad we decided to do this together. I am looking forward to going again next year when we can both go skiing together. I will write again later in the week.

Hello everyone! This is Tracy. Sorry we haven't been logging on. We left on Thursday for a mini vacation and we just got back home. There was so much to do before we left to get ready. We took the family to the mountains for the weekend and we just got home and it is after 11:00 at night. We will log in tomorrow and post a video. Until then, be well!

We're back on the diet and getting fit

Most of you know that my wife Tracy and myself have been sick for a week with the stomach flu. We both missed several days of work. And yes we lost weight the hard way. Once the flu was gone we started being able to hold down solid food again. For the next few days we ate the BRAT diet. Gradually we have been able to get back on the My Buddy Diet. Friday we worked out with Phil. Wow he really poured on the Aerobics. Saturday I was able to get a 30 min walk in as the weather in Huntsville was incredible. Today I took my 4 year old grandson to the park and played for an hour. Want to hear something great. Just a month and a half ago, I'm not sure I could have kept up with my grandson and would have needed poop out on a bench and watch him play. Its' so much better to be involved. My vitality is increasing by the day. This week we will have lots of diet, rest, exercise, activity and mental state goodies for you so read the blog often. Have a great week.

Working out again

Hello everyone. Tracy again. We are glad to be back. We have been sick for quite a while. I just started eating solid food again yesterday. We have started working out again too. It has been over a week since we were able to work out without being sick. Phil came on Tuesday but we just measured and weighed. We are both losing inches and very happy about it! We asked Phil to ease us back into working out because we have been so long without working out, over a week. Well, he doesn't know the meaning of easing into anything. He brought the Bosu Ball today and had me working out with that and had Greg working out with an 8 pound medicine ball! He is definitely a Personal TERRORIST! Anyway, just thought I would drop a line to everyone! Will write again soon!

Still getting over the stomach flu

Hello everyone. Again thank you for your indulgence. Tracy and I have been sick with the stomach flu for nearly a week now. We did not work today and both of us thought that another day off might get us up and going. We do feel better. We're taking an antibiotic now (2nd day) and eating yogurt for the intestinal flora. The good news is were loosing weight. The bad news is we're loosing weight the hard way. This morning even though we felt horrible we go up and saw our personal trainer. Today instead of working out he measured us. Tracy and I both lost inches. I guess I can start to tell a difference in how my clothes fit. Your always the last to know, up or down. We hope to be back "up and atem" on Thursday.

We've Been Sick

Hello Again. I wanted to put something on here tonight as we will try to do a video blog tomorrow night. Tracy and I have been pretty sick this week with the stomach flu. For a while there, I thought we might have Salmonella. Now I don't know. First, Thursday morning Tracy started feeling nausea and upset stomach. By Thurs at noon she was running 102 degrees. Her stomach flu was terrible Thurs, Friday and Saturday. On Thurs night, she loved me so much that she wanted to share everything with her buddy and guess what. Thurs night, Friday and Saturday I had it too. Fever and all the rest. We were able to keep down some water, gator aid and some ginger ale but nothing else. I missed work on Friday and call on Saturday. Sorry Guys. But I really would not have been much use to you. Today for the first day Tracy and I are eating again. I started both of us on some broth and later on BRAT foods. Bananas, Rice, Applesauce, Toast foods. Tracy could not even make the BRAT switch. Talk about loosing weight the hard way. Well back to bed I go. We thank you for your indulgence and we will video blog tomorrow night.

Wednesday

Hello, it's Tracy again. I am so tired today. We worked out with Phil on Tuesday and I haven't been getting enough sleep. I am actually starting to look forward to Phil coming in now. I feel better when we work out than when we don't. If we skip it, I really don't feel as good. I am starting to work my abs more and I talked with Phil yesterday about starting with the bender ball later in the week. He decided to put off starting the Bosu ball because it is more intense and we didn't get to work out on Friday. Both Greg and I were sick, nothing serious, just laryngitis, but enough that made me not want to work out. So, he decided that we would be better off waiting a week to up the intensity. We are still doing well on the food we eat. We haven't had any fast food (no french fries) since December. I actually feel much better. I will write again later in the week.

24 days and 14lbs on the My Buddy Diet

Hello I'm Dr. Greg Millar. This week my wife Tracy, my buddy, and I candidly discuss our week. Our video is a little longer this week; but, we went to the movies with our grandson. We wanted to share how to handle popcorn at the movies. We're doing well on the Waay to get Fit exercise program and the My Buddy Diet lifestyle changes. Both Tray and I missed a workout this week. She was ill one day; and, I had contact dermatitis from a change in laundry detergent. We still stayed on everything else. I really feel that this is a diet (lifestyle) that I can do for the rest of my life.
Talk to you later this week

Hello! This is Tracy. Hope everyone is doing well. I am not looking forward to tomorrow. Phil is coming in the morning. We have moved the intensity up lately and I am up to 8 minutes straight on the stepper. He is supposed to introduce a new method of torture called the "bosu" ball. Not sure I like the sound of that. Anyway, I have lost two more pounds this week! I am getting very excited. I am still having trouble getting enough water. I must say that it is much easier on days when we work out, I seem to be more thirsty. Anyway, I will write again soon! Everyone be well!

Eating Out

Hello everyone! This is Tracy. Sorry it has been so long. I have had a lot going on. We went out to dinner with some friends the other night and we were able to stay on the diet. We did eat red meat but it was the first time since we started the diet. We both ate small 6oz fillets and vegetables and salads. We had decided to get dessert but by the time we finished eating, we were full and decided that we really didn't want it. That was a good feeling.

We had to get up this morning and work out even though it was so cold this morning. Greg was having terrible acid reflux problems and I had an awful headache. But, we still got up and worked out anyway and were glad we did. We are starting to notice the differences in each other since we have been working out and we are liking it. We are working on finding a ballroom dancing class. That would not have been thinkable two months ago. I am excited.

I had a difficult day on Monday. I got to be Mimi for the day and keep the grand kids (4yrs and 6months, both boys)! I was so excited. We went to McDonald's for the happy meal and I was craving the fries! I didn't eat them though. I did wind up getting some fried fish for lunch; though it was not very satisfying! I was not happy about it. I really wanted it to taste just like it did a couple of months ago but it didn't, it was too greasy and gave me stomach cramps. It wasn't as good; which is a really good thing because next time, it will be much easier to say no.

I will write again soon!

15 Days and 12 lbs

Hello all. Tracy and I are now 15 days into the Waay to Get Fit and following the My Buddy Diet and the results are great. We have lost 12 lbs so I have lost 7 lbs and Tracy has lost 5 lbs so far. I can't tell it yet, I can't even feel it yet in my clothes; but, for the first time, I am losing pounds on a real lifestyle modification program. This is not a fad diet where I know the weight will come right back; and, I will even gain more. I tell people many times a day that we're not on a diet as a diet is anything you eat. We're am changing my life habits. Tracy says the hardest thing is drinking the water every day. I think the hardest part is still getting up three times a week to work out with our personal trainer "Superman Phil Johnson". I am a little worried that we're actually loosing weight too rapidly. We really want to loose about 1 pound a week. We will need to up my calorie intake if we continue to loose so rapidly. It seems strange to say that we may need to eat more. We have found it interesting the quantity of real food with fruits and veggies that you need to consume to get the number of calories we each need. I mentioned in the video that I am having too much acid reflux. I have come up with some natural remedies I want to try first and see if they have impact. I will let you know the results. 8 Pounds Down

Today was a good day for the diet. My Buddy, Tracy and I decided to finally step on the scale. WOW. I am so pleased. We were down 8 pounds total. I was down 5 lbs and Tracy was down 3 lbs. as Buddies we're down 8 big pounds. That's exciting. It has been a long time since I was able to actually loose weight on a diet. This diet feels really right. With the lifestyle modifications we're making each week in Diet, Rest, Exercise, Activity and Mental State I feel like we can finally beat this thing. We are getting e-mails every day from people just like you that are joining Tracy and myself on the Waay to Get Fit. Remember all we have to loose is the weight. I am headed to bed so Ta Ta for now.

One Week Down, Jan. 10, 2009

Hello everyone! This is Tracy. Well, we have one week down in the new life style. We havn't been too strict, yet. We wanted to ease into it so that we didn't get burned out too soon. We are eating mostly cereals and fruit for breakfast and grilled fish for lunch. For dinner, we have some type of salad and protein. The hardest thing has been the water. Also, it has been difficult working out three times per week. The only time we had available was early in the morning. I am not a morning person so that has been particularly difficult for me. I am adapting, thanks to my buddy. He pushes me out of that bed three times per week. We are starting to feel better though and that was the total motivation for making this change, to feel better, and live longer. It will be fun starting ball room dancing. I am very much looking forward to that. Just some activity to get us out of the house and off of the couch. Just keeping everyone updated. I will write again soon!

ONE WEEK

ONE WEEK since we started on the WAAY to Get Fit and the "My Buddy Diet". What a week for my buddy and myself on the "My Buddy Diet". The way this diet or lifestyle modification program works is that you make a small change each week to each of five areas based on the acronym DREAM. This stands for Diet, Rest, Exercise, Activity and Mental State.

This week for Diet we added eight 8oz glasses of water each day. I found this really hard. I don't really like water. I don't particularly like the taste but we did it. We also gave up all soda, soft drinks and sweet tea. That was also tough. On diet this week we also had to leave food on our plate at the end of each meal. I've always been taught "be a good boy and clean your plate"; so, I did. This week we left food on our plate at the end of the meal. Big change for me. For rest we tried to set a fixed bedtime that would give us more sleep. We didn't do so good on that one. We're still working on it, nightly. For exercise our personal trainer Superman Phil Johnson is stretching us 3 times a week for 30 minutes. My goodness I was so sore. I tried some arnica montana to help relieve the soreness and that helped. I know it will be worth it once we start cardio and weightlifting. For Activity we have chosen ball room dancing. My Buddy, Tracy is signing us up this week. Finally for Mental State, this was a tough week. I didn't want to quit. There were nights I was hungry. I know that will get better too. I did learn to say my montra "Today is the day I DREAM to be better. Today I will do my best to love myself and my family and change my lifestyle for the better."

Join us as we go on this one year journey to Waay to Get Fit. You can use the link below to Waay TV Channel 31 to view video of the on air report every Tuesday during the 5 pm News. Also link to Millar Chiropractic for free step by step instructions each week on each of the 5 areas of change.

Sunday Night 1-4-09

Hi everyone! This is Tracy again. Tonight is Sunday and we are getting ready to go back to the grind tomorrow. We were on the phone to my mother in law today and she asked a great question...is the working out fun yet or is it still a pain? The answer was it is still a pain. I am very much looking forward to when it isn't a pain. I am still drowning in the water. I am struggling with the diet also. We had salad for dinner with chicken and now 3 hours later, I could eat again. Instead, I am having water. Trying to fill up on water, I may regret this at 3 am but for now, it is working. I will let you know how that goes. Tomorrow will be very difficult at work because it is the first of the year and it is a real big pain. But, luckily it only takes about 2 weeks to get everything calmed back down. I will try to write again tomorrow.
Be well!

Lotta Water 1-3-09

Hello, this is Tracy. We are off. We went back to work and started working out again. Phil was here on Friday and definitely worked us out. We are doing okay on the diet, we had salad for dinner last night and tonight. The hardest thing for us so far has been drinking the water. We have found it harder than we thought to get all the water in. We are continuing to support each other. Just yesterday I told Greg that he didn't have a choice, he had to get up and work out with me. Actually, he said it right back to me because I really didn't want to either. Today, he asked me how much water had I had today and handed me my water bottle and said "drink up". It may not seem like much to some people but eight 8 ounce glasses of water is a lot of watter! It will be worth it in the end. I am starting to tell that we have been working out and stretching. I will write back again tomorrow.

New Years Day

New Year New You. That is our mantra. Today we started the Waay to get fit - My Buddy Diet. Each week for the past 3 weeks WAAY TV has been following my wife Tracy and me on our preparation for the Waay to Get Fit. Each week during the 5pm news they have been showing our progress leading up to today.

First, We went to our Chiropractor, Dr. Sean Wallis (Millar Chiropractor Huntsville/Jones Valley) and learned to DREAM. -which stands for Diet/ Rest/ Exercise/ Activity/ and Mental state. Next, we signed the Buddy Diet contract. We went to our medical doctor for test to make sure we were medically ok to go on the diet. Next, we went through the cabinets and threw away all the snacks and goodies (that was tough). Then we went to Dr. Jason Reed, (Millar Chiropractor Athens/Madison) and got scanned for the Vitamins we needed. I scanned really low at 13,000 while Tracy scanned 19,000 in antioxidant protection out of a normal 40,000. Then we started with the personal trainer Phil Johnson 3 days a week. (boy am I sore- I have aching muscles I never knew I had) Finally we did the weigh in, BMI and fat percentages to track our weight loss. Here we go.... and we're off.

Today I was excited. New Year New Us. I started drinking eight 8 oz glasses of water a day. Today, I gave up drinking all cokes (regular and diet) and ice tea with meals. I now drink water with meals. I even had my one cup of coffee black this morning. Today I started following my glycemic load for the first time. I am giving up all drive through. I am eating a big breakfast and full lunch with only a salad for dinner. One of the foods I am completely eliminating is white potatoes and of course no more french fries. For full specifics go to my http://www.millarchiro.com/ website and look under Waay to Get Fit - My Buddy Diet.

I am excited and at the same time somewhat scared of what is ahead. I have publicly stated that I will lose 50 pounds and keep it off. You can't put yourself more out there than having Channel 31 follow you around with a camera in a reality show. What if I fail? I have failed many times in the past, this time with the help of my buddy, my wife Tracy, and your encouragement I feel success will come. Talk to you again tomorrow night.

Dr Greg

Hello everyone this is Tracy! It is a new year and I am very excited about our new program. I am also nervous. We are starting a whole new program. Just the other day I was on TV with Christy Douglas. (That was definitely nerve racking!) Maybe I didn't look too nervous. Anyway, Phil will be here in the morning to work out with us. He already told us that it is time to up the intensity. UH OH! I am not looking forward to that! I am however looking forward to the smaller figure and new wardrobe I will have to buy due to the fact that I won't fit in any of my clothes any more (not a bad problem to have...).

We also have to go back to work tomorrow and it will be very stressful. I am a little worried because whenever we work late, we usually will either go out to dinner or just get something quick and it is never good for us. We will no longer be able to do that. I will have to start being more organized. That is my New Year's resolution. I have things at home and at work that are unorganized. My goal this year is to learn to be more organized. It is getting late now and we have to get up very early to work out so I will sign off for now. I will write again tomorrow and let you know how our first day back at work with our new plan goes! Talk to you again tomorrow!
